Heracles Almelo forward, Cyriel Dessers says he is looking forward to representing Nigeria on the international scene.
Dessers, 24, made this known after winning the Revelation of The Year Award, at the maiden edition of The Ballers Award held in Lagos on Sunday.
Reacting to the award, the forward took to social media to express his delight and also thanked everyone who voted for him.
@CyrielDessers – “ Honoured to get this award! It means a lot to me, thanks @9ja_footballers and people who voted for me. Hope to see you soon 🇳🇬 #BallersAwards,” he wrote on his verified Twitter on handle on Monday.
The former FC Utrecht player was born in Leuven to a Belgian father and qualifies for Nigeria through his mother.
In December 2019, Dessers declared his intention to represent the Eagles after confirming contact from the NFF.
”There has already been contact with the Nigerian association. After the match against ADO Den Haag, the assistant from Nigeria sent me a message that I was doing well,” Dessers told Belgian outlet Sporza.
“But that is not going to be easy either because there are 300 million Nigerians worldwide.
“I have never been to Nigeria, also because the political situation has not been so calm in recent years.
“The last year is only slightly better. I would like to go there and it would be twice as good to do that even if it’s only to play a friendly game against Madagascar or Mauritius.”
