Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was forced off early in Lazio’s 1-0 loss to Roma in the Derby della Capitale, a match that saw the Biancocelesti struggle to maintain control after his exit.
Dele-Bashiru was substituted in the 14th minute after what appeared to be a thigh injury. He is set to undergo tests to determine the severity of the problem.
This latest setback marks the third injury of Dele-Bashiru’s career.
Last season, he missed five games due to an ankle injury. His absence was sorely felt in Sunday’s clash, as Lazio lost their midfield balance and attacking rhythm shortly after he left the pitch.
Roma took full advantage of Lazio’s lack of momentum. Lorenzo Pellegrini broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, scoring what would ultimately be the match-winning goal.
Despite Lazio’s attempts to respond, Roma remained in control for most of the game.
The Giallorossi dominated the match with 13 shots six of them on target and 336 completed passes. Lazio, on the other hand, managed 10 shots with only two on target and recorded 315 passes.

After the match, Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri expressed frustration and disappointment, both at the result and the performance.
“The consequences are clear and concrete… Losing a derby like this hurts me. You feel like you’ve let down an entire people. It hurts me I hope it hurts the players too,” said Sarri.

“We had four or five fairly clear chances to equalize, and even in the first half we could’ve taken the lead. We lost in an ugly way and because of a terrible mistake. We’ll have to figure out whether it was a technical error or due to carelessness or maybe both.
“It’s a pity, because we played a good game. I feel sorry for our fans, and also a bit for the team, because we didn’t deserve to lose.”
Lazio will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against Genoa, scheduled for September 29.
However, all eyes will be on Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s medical updates as fans and staff alike await news on whether midfielder will be fit to feature.
