Nigeria midfielder, Deborah Abiodun scored twice in the University of Pittsburgh’s 3-0 win over Syracuse in the NCAA clash last weekend.
The match remained goalless until the 76th minute when Abiodun, formerly of Rivers Angels, broke the deadlock with a powerful header from a well-placed corner by Sarah Schulansky.
Just five minutes later, Abiodun doubled Pittsburgh’s lead with a determined effort, pouncing on a loose ball and firing it into the upper right corner of the net, securing her brace.
Schulansky, who assisted Abiodun’s opener, made history in the 86th minute by setting up Ellie Coffield’s goal, becoming Pittsburgh’s all-time leader for single-season assists with 15.
The victory hands Pittsburgh its second consecutive win and helped solidify their eighth-place position in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Duke, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Stanford, California, and Florida State are currently ahead of them in the table standings.
