Bafana midfielder Dean Furman recollects memories as South Africa face off with Nigeria in Group E of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, when they meet in Uyo on Saturday, June 10.
Dean Furman has revealed that the memories from the 2015 AFCON qualifier game against Nigeria three years ago still lives in the heart and minds of his teammates.
The Supersport United midfielder believes they’re are familiar with the Eagles team, and they know how to deal with whatever kind of play their counterparts will bring to the pitch.
A place in the 2019 AFCON tournament is a priority for both Nigeria and South Africa, since neither the Super Eagles nor Bafana Bafana qualified for the last AFCON in Gabon earlier this year.
And Dean Furman, 28, has stated that the Bafana Bafana still have fond memories of how they stopped Nigeria from making the 2015 AFCON.
“We still have fond memories on how we stopped the Super Eagles of Nigeria. We simply hope to draw inspiration from the experience three years ago, in order to edge past Nigeria this weekend.
“I believe our players have the ability to match up with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, so there is no reason to fret over tomorrow’s game, Furman said,”.
The Super Eagles have drawn five games and won seven games in their last 12 meetings with Bafana Bafana. South Africa have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive match.
