Nigerian striker David Okereke had a game to forget for Venezia at home against Sampdoria last night.
The Nigerian was shadow of himself in a game Venezia needed a victory to boost their chances of beating the drop.
Prior to the game, Venezia boss Paolo Zanetti named the striker as one of the lads, he is banking on to save the team from instant relegation back to Serie B.
However, Okereke failed to live up to expectations and was substituted after picking up a yellow card.
To make the matter worse, Venezia shot themselves in the foot as two costly errors from the Paolo Zanetti’s men handed the visitors important win.
Niki Maenpaa took too many touches inside his own penalty area and was robbed by Abdelhamid Sabini to set up Francesco Caputo for the opener.
Caputo got his brace few minutes later. This time Luca Fiordilino gave away the ball cheaply and Caputo punished them.
Thomas Henry got himself sent off for dissent, something that had been in the air for some time, prompting a furious response from his coach.
Tyrone Ebuehi didn’t feature for Venezia as he’s yet to recover from the injury he sustained last month.
With the defeat, Venezia slipped to 18th position on the table— three points from safety.
