Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi says the support of the fans even in the most difficult circumstances has been one of the motivation for the team to excel at the AFCON 2019.
Akpeyi, who is the Super Eagles first choice in the competition returned between the sticks for the round of 16 win over Cameroon, after he was rested in Nigeria’s final group game against Madagascar.
Having kept two cleans sheets in over 180 minutes of football, the 33 year-old was breached twice by Cameroon leaving Nigeria at the cusps of back to back defeats.
But the fans were never deterred and that unrelenting supported spurred the Super Eagles to a comeback Akpeyi credits.
“When we know that we have the fans and supporters it actually motivates you to continue doing well rather than turning us down when we are a goal down.
“So, I must give kudos to them too for standing behind us all through.”
