Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers was on the scoresheet as Rangers overturned an early deficit to defeat Dundee United 3-1 in a Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday.
Belgian manager Philippe Clement included Dessers in the starting XI for the fixture, just days after the striker scored a stunning equalizer in Rangers’ 2-1 Europa League loss to Manchester United.
The hosts struck first when Sam Dalby, on loan from Leeds United, opened the scoring in the 19th minute. However, Rangers found their equalizer in the 37th minute through midfielder Mohamed Diomande, who finished off a well-worked move.
Rangers took control shortly after halftime as Robin Propper’s deflected shot gave them a 2-1 lead.
The Light Blues sealed the victory four minutes from time when Dessers fired home from inside the box after a precise pass from Zak Lovelace.
Dessers’ goal capped another impressive performance for the Nigerian forward, who has now scored six goals in his last four appearances.
His recent form has been pivotal for Rangers, who remain second in the league standings with 50 points, 10 behind leaders Celtic.
The 30-year-old has enjoyed a prolific season, netting 19 goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
His spectacular goal against Manchester United earlier in the week was also nominated for the Europa League Goal of the Day award, finishing fourth after a fan vote.
Rangers will look to build on this momentum in their next league match as they aim to close the gap on their Old Firm rivals.
