Getafe coach, Jose Bordalas says he regrets not allowing Oghenekaro Etebo to travel to Nigeria before coronavirus pandemic became really serious.
The 56 year old tactician disclosed that Etebo requested to be withhis family after the current campaign LA Liga was suspended, but his wish wasn’t granted.
Bordalas said he would have saved Etebo much loneliness in the long run if he had simply allowed him leave Spain when he politelyasked.
“We, however, never thought this was going to hit us so hard,” he was quoted as saying.
“The wife and child of Peter Etebo had gone back to Nigeria and that left him confined on his own, so we tried to keep regular contact with him.
“He told us how sad and how lonely he was feeling, especially because he is a young man who hasn’t mastered the language yet.”
Etebo joined the Spanish side on loan from English Championship club, Stoke City in January and back in training with the rest of the squad ahead of LA Liga restart against Granada.
Getafe are 5th on the La Liga table with 46 points behind RealSociedad, Sevilla, Real Madrid and table-toppers, Barcelona with 58points from 27 matches.
