Bayelsa Queens head coach, Ogbonda Whyte, is uncertain regarding the start date for the new Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season, amid conflicting rumors suggesting either January 8th or 15th as potential kick-off dates.
Unbothered for the absence of official confirmation from league organizers, Whyte reassured fans that his team is well-prepared, having used two pre-season tournaments to assess their squad and work on areas of improvement.
“The rumour said it’s coming in January, another one said it’s coming 15th January, so we are not sure, but what I know is that material for this session is on.”
“That is what I can be able to tell you,” Whyte said, speaking candidly about the confusion surrounding the season’s start date.
He further noted, “The women’s league has not said anything. Whatever we are hearing is just rumour from people.”
Whyte remains optimistic despite the uncertainty, pointing out that his team has already completed two pre-season tournaments, which helped them identify strengths and weaknesses in their squad.
“So far, so good because I think we were able to go for two pre-season games in tournament, which was about a few months ago. From those two pre-season games, we were able to assess the players we have,” he explained.
After a brief break, the team is back in training, and Whyte believes they are ready to hit the ground running when the league finally begins.
“After that we went on break and we are now back. So, we are going to work on the lapses we discovered during the pre-season. I think we are well prepared for the league,” he added.
With the start date still unclear, Bayelsa Queens continue their preparations, and await the official 2024/25 NWFL season resumption date.
