Coaches Appointment in Nigeria Not on Merit – Udi

Former Nigeria international, Duke Udi has revealed his dissatisfaction with the current state of football coaching appointments in the country.
Speaking on “No Holds Barred” with Ifeanyi Udeze on Brila FM, the 48-year-old stated that coaching positions are not awarded based on merit.
“Coaching isn’t appointed based on merit. I’m a coach, and I can tell you that. League-winning coaches are sacked, and relegated coaches get new jobs. It’s not in all cases, but it happens a lot.
“Administrators don’t care about the results; just a few care about the result. And that’s why football isn’t growing here,” Udi said.
Udi also commented on the disparity between Nigerian football and other countries.
“I was watching a game the other day; I saw Orlando Pirates playing a friendly against Sevilla. But we can’t do that.
“Here, we hope on God to deliver results. Don’t they have God? These are the teams we want to compete with in continental competitions.”
However, Udi praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau for his efforts since coming into power.
“Since Gusau came into power, positive things have been showing up. I’ve been observing him since he came in. He’s trying to take positive steps, but the condition around him is not good enough.
“The scarcity of funds is shutting down ideas, but people don’t understand it, and they attach the blame to the NFF every time,” Udi stated.
