Coach Bruno Labbadia to Announce Foreign Assistants Soon

Bruno Labbadia, the newly-appointed head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, is preparing to announce his foreign assistants.

Labbadia’s appointment was confirmed on Tuesday, and the German coach is expected to bring in two foreign assistants alongside local coaches selected by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Labbadia is reportedly considering three candidates for his foreign coaching team: Erdinç Sözer, Olaf Janßen, and Bernhard Trares. Sözer, known as Labbadia’s most trusted assistant, is likely to be his top choice.

The duo has a long history of working together at clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, and Hertha Berlin. Sözer is currently available, having left Turkish side Samsunspor in June 2024.

Bernhard Trares, a former center-back, has also worked closely with Bruno Labbadia, starting their collaboration in 2015 at Hamburg and continuing at VfB Stuttgart.

Like Sözer, Trares is currently without a club.

Olaf Janßen, who is currently managing Viktoria Köln, may not be an option due to his ongoing commitment to the club.

Labbadia’s final decision on his coaching team is expected soon as he begins his new role with the Super Eagles.
