The Technical Department’s leash on Gernot Rohr has contributed “very very greatly” to the quality of the Super Eagles according to its Director, Bitrus Bewarang.
Nigeria’s defeat to South Africa in the AFCON 2019 qualifying match in Uyo sparked a mild debate between the NFF TD and Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr on the matter of players invited to the team.
Subsequently, the German tactician was required to “present and defend” any list of invitees for competitive games.
Bewarang, a former national team coach, insists the policy it adopted with Rohr has perpetuated the improved performance of the team.
“The Technical Department has been very very up and doing because we were able to put our feet on the ground to make the Technical Adviser come and share ideas rather than him just sending a list for approval.
“So that opportunity has been created to scrutinize his list before he goes for any competition.
“Once he’s going for a competition he sends his list to the Technical Committee and that’s what we’ve been doing.
“I believe that that has actually contributed very very greatly to the Super Eagles performance and other teams as well,” Bewarang said.
