Samuel Chukwueze missed out in the opportunity to win another European trophy as his team Villarreal lost the UEFA Super Cup final to Chelsea on Wednesday.
Chukwueze who missed the game due to injury would have been eligible to pick up a winner medal had his team beat the European Champions in Belfast.
Villarreal fell behind in the 27th minutes when Morrocan forward Hakim Ziyech converted Kai Havertz’ low cross from the left.
The Yellow Submarines laveled the scores with 15 minutes left to play, after Spanish forward Gerrard Moreno finished off a good move from Boulaye Dia.
The goal took the match to extra time and there was nothing to separate them after another 30 minutes of action.
The game headed to penalty shoot-out and Chelsea held their nerves to win their second UEFA Super Cup tie with a 6-5 win.
