AC Milan wrapped up their preseason in style, claiming a 3-1 victory over AC Monza in the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi, a match held in memory of the former president of both clubs.
The win marks Milan’s fourth and final preseason win, setting an optimistic tone ahead of the Serie A opener this weekend.
Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze played a pivotal role in ensuring the Rossoneri ended their preparations on a high note.
Though he started on the bench, his introduction at half-time proved to be a game changer.
With the score tied at 1-1, Chukwueze replaced Belgian winger Alexis Saelemaekers, who had earlier given Milan the lead with an audacious rabona attempt that deflected off a Monza defender, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
Monza quickly responded, levelling the score through Daniel Maldini who was a former Milan player but now plays for Monza.
Chukwueze’s second half presence brought stability in the team with his creativity and blistering pace which wreaked havoc on the Monza defense.
Just two minutes into the second half, Luka Jovic restored Milan’s lead, capitalizing on the momentum shift.
The final goal came from Tijjani Reijnders, who unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box, courtesy of a well-placed free-kick assist from Theo Hernandez.
This victory not only secured Milan the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy for a second consecutive year, it also marked Chukwueze’s second piece of silverware with the club.
The Nigerian winger has been in great form throughout the preseason, and he’s eager to carry that momentum into the Serie A campaign.
He’s promised fans a revitalized “Samu” as the new season kicks off, looking to make a more significant impact after a relatively quiet first season with the Rossoneri.
