Chukwueze hauled off in Villarreal’s scrappy win over Guijelo

Samuel Chukwueze was on parade as Villarreal laboured to beat lowly rated Guijelo at the Estadio Municipal Luis Ramos on Tuesday.

Chukwueze kept his place in the starting 11, as he was deployed behind the attack led by Gerrard Moreno.

The left winger had a decent outing and lasted for 71 minutes, with Gambia Spanish born Nicolas Jackson replacing him.

JosĆ© Carmona RodrĆguez gave Guijelo the lead inside the opening 14 minutes, but Moreno’s penalty on the 41st minute wiped out the advantage.

The scoreline remained unchanged in the second half and Villarreal needed extra time to see off the determined second division side.

Arnaut Danjuma got the winner three minutes into extra time, with an assist from Dani Pajero.

With the victory, the Yellow Submarines are now through to the third round of the Copa De Rey.

“We are aware that in this competition any rival can complicate you. It has happened in the rest of the games that have been played today,” Villarreal coach Quique Setien said.

“Nobody gives away anything. It is true that there is an important difference in categories, but on this type of terrain everything is very much the same.”

Villarreal will next face Valencia on the 31st of December.
