Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Liverpool in the first leg semi-final of UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Chukwueze was on parade as the Spanish side bowed to the Reds at Anfield, courtesy of goals from a Pervis Estupinan (53′) and Sadio Mane (55′).
The 22 year-old Nigeria who played from the start was quiet all through the and failed to reproduce the magic that saw him grab score the goal that eliminated Bayern Munich in the previous round.
He was later replaced by French-born Senegalese international Boulaye Dia in the 72nd minute.
Villarreal will be hoping to turn the tables when they host Liverpool in the second leg next week.
Thank you Anfield for the great reception for our fans. The Estadio de la Cerámica will be rocking next week.#UCL https://t.co/RLcUrrtwWW
