Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies midfielder Chuene Morifi said her side were fortunate to beat Bayelsa Queens, insisting the Nigerian Champions are a good side.
The South Africans edged Bayelsa Queens in the CAF Champions League Group A opener on Monday.
The Nigerians dominated the early stages but fell short in front of goal as they failed to take their chances.
The Prosperity Girls however paid for their prolificacy when Lelona Daweti opened scoring a minute after the hour mark.
The Nigerian champions let in the second goal in the 57th minute with Daweti scoring her second of the game.
Mary-Magdalene Anjor reduced the deficit for Bayelsa Queens 10 minutes from time, but Sundowns held on for a slim victory.
While reacting to the game, Morifi said, Bayelsa Queens gave them a good challenge.
“This was a very tough game for us because Queens are a top side in Nigeria who possess several players from the national team.
“Things were a bit difficult for us in the early period, but we managed to settle in and take control of the game.
“We created like they did, but I think we converted our chances when they came, and we are pleased with the outcome of the fixture.
“We are eagerly looking forward to the next game”, she told the club media.
The Bayana Ba will face Wadi Degla in their next group game on Thursday.
