Getafe midfielder, Chrisantus Uche has officially joined the Super Eagles camp in London ahead of their Unity Cup final clash against Jamaica, following a delay caused by visa complications.
Uche was notably absent when the team resumed camp earlier in the week, and as a result, he missed Nigeria’s opening match against Ghana.
However, the reason for his absence has now been clarified as he encountered entry visa challenges that delayed his arrival in London. The same issue also affected goalkeeper Amas Obasogie.
The 22-year-old finally linked up with the squad on Friday and trained with the rest of the team.
Later that evening, he was formally welcomed in the traditional Super Eagles initiation ceremony for new players, marking his integration into the national team setup.
Uche’s arrival is a timely boost for Nigeria’s midfield, providing coach Eric Chelle with more options ahead of Saturday’s final at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Nigeria is aiming to round off the four-nation tournament on a high after edging past Ghana 2-1 in their first match, thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers and an own goal by Ghana’s Razak Simpson.
With Uche now in camp, the coaching staff has added depth and creativity to the midfield qualities that could prove crucial against a physically strong Jamaican side.
Looking beyond the Unity Cup, Uche has also been named in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming international friendly against Russia in Moscow on June 6.
His participation in that fixture is expected to further solidify his place in the team as Nigeria builds toward future competitive engagements.
The Super Eagles are now fully focused on the Unity Cup final, with hopes high that Uche’s arrival can help inspire a strong finish to the tournament.
