Super Falcons forward, Chioma Okafor has officially launched her professional career after signing a three-year contract with North Carolina Courage in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
The agreement also includes a club option for the 2029 season, as the Courage invests long-term faith in the explosive young forward.
The move is a major milestone for the 22-year-old, who joins one of the NWSL’s most decorated clubs following an outstanding collegiate career in the United States.

From UConn Standout to NWSL Professional
Okafor arrives in North Carolina after four impressive seasons with the UConn Huskies, where she developed into one of the program’s most consistent and dangerous attacking players.
Across her collegiate career, she made;
– 57 appearances,
– scored 30 goals, and
– provided five assists.
Her time at UConn was defined by elite individual recognition, her reliability and attacking efficiency.
The 2024 WAFCON champion was named First Team All-BIG EAST for three consecutive seasons and earned All-American honours on three occasions.
She was also a 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and featured on the 2025 preseason watchlist, crowning her status as one of the top forwards in NCAA football.

Speaking after completing the move, Okafor shared her excitement at beginning her professional journey with the Courage and praised the club’s vision for her development.

North Carolina Courage Chief Soccer Officer Ceri Bowley praised Okafor’s qualities, describing her as a player capable of immediately strengthening the club’s attacking options while fitting into its long-term vision.
