Nigerian forward, Chinwendu Ihezuo was on target as Pachuca secured a 2-1 victory over Club América in a top-of-the-table clash in the Mexican Liga MX Femenil.
The win propelled Pachuca to first place, overtaking their rivals with 16 points, one more than Club América.
Ihezuo opened the scoring in the 33rd minute at the Estadio Miguel Hidalgo, giving Pachuca an early advantage. However, Club América responded early in the second half, with Montserrat Saldivar netting an equalizer in the 53rd minute.
Pachuca quickly regained their lead five minutes later through Nina Nicosia, sealing an important victory.
Chinwendu Ihezuo, who previously played for Monterrey, has now scored three goals in six league appearances this season.
She was substituted in stoppage time, making way for American international Ayooluwa Oke in the 93rd minute.
Meanwhile, her Nigerian compatriot Osinachi Ohale played the entire match and received a yellow card in the 15th minute for a challenge on an opponent.
With this victory, Pachuca now sits atop the Liga MX Femenil standings and will look to extend their lead when they visit Club León in their next league match on February 8, 2025.
