Chelsea winger, Mykhailo Mudryk has been urged to “disconnect” from the ongoing turmoil surrounding his failed drug test, with his manager Enzo Maresca suggesting the 23-year-old step away as he awaits the results of an FA investigation.

Mudryk was provisionally suspended last week after returning a positive “A” sample for the banned substance meldonium in October.

The Ukraine international, who was shocked by the news, insists that his sample may have been contaminated.

Sources have confirmed that the substance was allegedly administered while he was outside the UK.

Chelsea has stood by Mudryk, with the club stressing that the winger has “never knowingly used any banned substances”. However, if found guilty, Mudryk could face a multi-year ban.

Maresca commented on Mudryk’s current state: “In this moment it’s also good he can disconnect a little bit from the situation.”

“The last time I spoke with him, we tried to support him but in this moment we are waiting.”

Mykhailo Mudryk was recently seen at the heavyweight boxing title fight between his compatriot Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.

In addition to commenting on Mudryk’s case, Maresca also weighed in on Manchester City’s struggles, with the club languishing in seventh place in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.

“I think Manchester City at the end will be there. They are in a moment that never happened before. Every time they play a game, they have some injuries.”

“They don’t have enough players in this moment. The ones they have are probably not 100 percent because they just come back from injury.”

“It’s a very bad situation but I think it is for everyone when something like this happens.”
