Chelsea, Terry, Ighalo others reacts as Mikel announces retirement

Chelsea FC, and former England captain John Terry were among those in the football community who paid tribute to John Mikel Obi, following his retirement from professional football.

Mikel, on Tuesday, announced his retirement from football at the age of just 35.

He called time on his career after almost two decades of professional, which saw him play in Africa, Europe and Asia.

The high point of his career was at Chelsea, where he won the numerous titles and played along some of the biggest names in the game.

Reacting to the news, Chelsea who beat Manchester United to his signature in 2005, joined others to pay tribute to their former player.

“Enjoy your retirement, and Thanks for the memories,” Chelsea posted on Twitter handle.

Mikel’s captain at Chelsea, John Terry also paid tribute to the Nigerian.

“What a great career my friend, it was a pleasure to play and share dressing room with you.”

Odion Ighalo wrote : Congrats Skippo, I wish you good luck .

“I dey miss you baba, thanks for that wonderful journey, his former mate at Chelsea, Salomon Kalou said.

Congratulations Skippo.” Says Oghenekaro Etebo who was at several international tournaments with him.

“Enjoy your retirement Skippo “, Another member of the Super Eagles squad Jamilu Collins wrote.

“Congratulations on amazing career my friend. It was an honor to play with you”, Says Brazilian full back Filipe Luis.

Mikel retired from international football three years ago, after leading the Super Eagles to third place at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
