Striker Mohammed Zulkifilu is determined to qualify for next year’s African National Championship (CHAN) and admits it’s a personal target.
Zulkifilu was named in Nigeria’s 35-man squad for the CHAN qualifiers against Ghana, and he describes it as a second chance at redemption.
The CHAN Eagles have failed to qualify for bact to back éditions of the competition.
Two years ago, the Kano Pillars forward was in the squad that lost to Ghana, and he has vowed to right that wrong.
“We came close to qualifying for the CHAN last time, and that failure still lingers in my mind,” the forward told brila.net.
“This time around, it is like a personal mission for me and those of us who still made this team. We can’t afford to fail again, qualifying for the CHAN is non-negotiable.
“I am truly delighted to make the squad again, and this time things will be different.”
Nigeria dis not play the preliminary qualifiers, but received a bye due to the Country’s position in the FIFA ranking.
The final round of qualifiers will hold between December 20-22 for the first legs, while the return fixtures will be held between December 27-29.
Ghana will host the first leg of this tie against Nigeria at a yet to be named venue.
