The Rwandan team, the Amavubis were pooled in Group C of the tournament along with Nigeria, Libya, and Equatorial Guinea. They managed one goalless draw against Nigeria, a one-nil win against Equatorial Guniea and a late loss in their final game against Libya.
Of the eight teams to have crashed out at the group stage, Hey is the second coaching casualty. Guinea fired their coach, Kanfory Bangoura over poor outing at the tournament.
Bangoura who’s also known as Lappe had been coach of Guinea’s senior team as well as the CHAN squad of locally-based players since July 2016.
The CHAN enters the knockout rounds this weekend. Two games will be played on Saturday, January 27, 2018, when hosts Morocco take on Namibia and Sudan face Zambia.
In the other round, Nigeria plays Angola while the Congo and Libya match completes the fixtures.
