CHAN 2018: Eagles should remain focused despite Rwanda draw – Lawal warns

Former Super Eagles international, Garba Lawal has advised the Eagles players to be focused and not be distracted by criticism as they look forward to Friday’s must-win game against Libya.

In a Telephone interview earlier today on Brila FM’s Center Circle, Lawal who is a member of the Nigeria Football Federation’s technical committee said there’s a need for the lads to remain focused.

“The guys should be more focused, what happened yesterday is not a big deal, it’s football, everyone wants to get a win but you don’t always get what you want” Lawal stated.

The former Levski Sofia of Bulgaria winger also want the team to be more compact defensively, he was of the opinion of keeping your back tight even if you can’t get the goals.

“If you can’t get the goal, the opponents must not score you,” Lawal told brila.

Lawal is regarded as one of the most versatile players in the Nigeria national football team of the 1990s and early 2000s often being used for any position ranging from defense to attack to the left wing also answered a question on how he managed to play under almost all Super Eagles Coaches during his playing time.

“Discipline, Discipline is the major thing that kept me going and getting selected ahead of my contemporaries” Lawal answered.

The Ex-International took his time to explain the essence of discipline, and why it’s essential for everyone.

“When you listen to the Coaches, when you carry out their instructions, when you do exactly what they want you to do, definitely you’ll keep playing.

Garba Lawal has also tried his hands in Management, In August 2009 was named as the assistant coach of Lobi Stars F.C. In the same year, he was employed as team coordinator for the Nigeria national under-17 football team.
