Nigeria International Sone Aluko has joined Reading from Championship rivals Fulham on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old Aluko moved to Craven Cottage on a free transfer last summer following the expiry of his contract at Hull City, and now moves to the Madejski Stadium for a reported fee of around £7.5million.
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic urged the club not to sell the forward when Reading’s interest first became known earlier this summer.
But a deal has now been struck for a player who scored nine goals for the Cottagers last season.
But it is understood Fulham will now pursue a move for Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle.
Reading manager Jaap Stam told his club’s official website: ‘In Sone we welcome a quality player into our squad.
‘With his pace and ability on the ball, he can make life difficult for every opponent we face this season and he has experience of playing at the level we want to play at.
‘He poses a threat going forward, he keeps the ball well, he can play as a striker or out on the wing and I am sure he will improve us as a squad.
‘So I’m very happy that he has chosen to join us.’
