Celtic, Leeds jostle for Chuba Akpom Permanent deal

Nigerian prospect Chuba Akpom is set for a permanent move from Arsenal with either of Leeds United or Celtic as the choice destination.

According to reports in England, Akpom is considered a target for both Leeds and Celtic; as Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has stressed the need to prune his 33-man squad.

The 21-year-old has made four Premier League appearances for the Gunners and another six in all competitions but he has also been loaned out five times.

In those spells he managed to accumulate 63 senior league appearances and could put roots down this season with a new club.

The Daily Mirror claims that Championship side Leeds and Scottish giants Celtic are “locked in battle” to land the 21-year-old.

Meanwhile, another battle for the player’s International future could be on the cards with the Nigeria FA hoping to have the forward switch nationality.

Akpom is of Nigerian descent and is eligible to represent the three-time African championships since he has not been capped by England at senior level.
