Former Super Eagles World Cup defender Juwon Oshaniwa has come out to state that sports stakeholders in Nigeria should celebrate sports Icons/athletes while alive and not until after their death.
Oshaniwa’s reaction is coming after the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, under the leadership of her Honourable minister, Sunday Dare has placed the mother of late Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini, Alhaja Sikiratu, on a monthly stipend.
Representing the Minister, Olaitan Shittu, on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to late striker’s aged mother in Ijagbo, Offa, Kwara state donating Ramadan gifts and a sum of 50,000 naira to the family.
In a chat with brila.net, Oshaniwa commended the effort of the Sports minister but emphasized the need to always remember the sports legends when they are alive not when they are gone.
