Kenneth Omeruo watched on from the CD Leganés bench as they fell 1-0 at home in their La Liga season opener against Osasuna on Saturday.
Coming fresh off his permanent move from Chelsea to Los Pepineros, Omeruo was left on the bench by Manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
The defender did not have a pre-season, having been on international duty with Nigeria at the 2019 AFCON.
Osasuna’s winner came in the 75th minute through Argentine attacker Chimy Avila.
The home side also suffered a blow, losing midfielder Oscar, who was shown a straight red after a rash challenge on an opponent.
Meanwhile, new loan signing Chidozie Awaziem was not named in the matchday squad.
Next La Liga business for Leganés is another home game when they welcome Atletico Madrid to the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on August 25.
