Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has picked his team for Monday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo in Cameroon.
According to former Media Officer of the Nigeria’s national team, Colin Udoh, the German has gone for the same super eagles players that started in the 4-0 win against the Indomitable Lions last Friday.
Udoh, who is on ground in Yaounde, tweeted: “Nigeria will play with the same starting XI from the last game #CMRNGA #CAFWCQ.”
This means captain John Mikel Obi will lead the team out. The Tianjin TEDA midfielder pulled the strings at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium last week, setting up Odion Ighalo for the first goal and scoring the second.
Ighalo starts in attack despite a tight hamstring and will be supported from the flanks by Victor Moses and Simon Moses.
Home-based Ikechukwu Ezenwa in his goal, while the Leon Balogun-William Troost-Ekong partnership continue in central defence.
Kick-off is 6pm.
GK: Ezenwa
DF: Shehu, Balogun, Troost, Elderson
MDF: Onazi, Mikel (c), Ndidi
FWD: Simon, Ighalo, Moses
The Super Eagles were the better team when both sides clashed last Friday in Uyo, winning 4-0 at the Nest of Champions.
While World Cup qualification is seemingly out of reach for Cameroon, it is expected that the wounded Lions will battle for pride in today’s tie fixed for 6.pm at the Stade Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo in the heart of Yaoundé.
