Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey again didn’t get a taste of action as Ajax Amsterdam boosted UEFA Champions League hope with 3-1 win over FC Utrecht on Sunday.

Bassey was left on the bench for the entirety of the game by manager John Heitinga.

The 22-year-old defender has now watched the last three straight matches from the bench.

The £16m summer signing has fallen behind in the pecking order, and could be allowed to leave the club In the summer.

Bassey has been subjected to heavy criticisms by the fans and media and has been made the scapegoat for the side’s poor run, and title defense.

He however managed just 24 appearances with one league goal and three assists this season.
