Nigeria will have no representative in the CAF Champions League yet again next season, after NPFL Champions Rivers United fell like a pack of cards to Wydad Casablanca in the final preliminary round of the tournament.
The Nigerian Champions traveled to Morocco with a narrow 2-1 lead from the first leg and it took Wydad just 31 minutes to wipe it off, with the opening goal.
A moment of madness from Ghanaian goalkeeper Mutawakilu Seidu further complicated the game for the Rivers United.
He was caught on camera elbowing a Wydad player inside the box, few minutes after he was yellow carded for time wasting.
The referee issued him a red card and award a penalty to the home which was converted.
The hosts went into the break with 2-0 lead, and returned to score four more goals in the second half to win the game 6-0 on the night, and 7-2 on aggregate.
Like Plateau United, Rivers United will now drop to the CAF Confederation Cup, while Kwara United who lost 2-0 to RS Berkane dropped out of the competition.
Both Rivers United and Plateau United will know their Confederation Cup playoff foes tomorrow when the draw is conducted.
