Momentum in the game then shifted in favor of Edo Queens and their pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty.

CAF WCL: Edo Queens Score Two Stoppage Time Goals To Seal Dramatic Comeback Win Against Defending Champions

Edo Queens fought from behind to snatch a big 2-1 victory in their final group stage match against Mamelodi Sundowns, to advance through to the CAF Women’s Champions League semifinal.

Sundowns took the lead through Melinda Kgadiete (24′), and we’re in an advantageous position after Edo Queens were forced to make a substitution following an injury to Mary Anjor.

The introduction of Mary Mamudu (33′) changed the game’s tempo slightly, but the defending Champions held their lead to close the half with their noses in front.

After the resumption, Coach Moses Aduku made another change bringing on forward, Esther Moses.

Momentum in the game then shifted in favor of Edo Queens and their pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty.

However, captain Chioma Olise (53′) missed the penalty, and subsequently, Sundowns goalkeeper Andile Dlamini ensured to thwart further efforts by the Nigerian team’s attack.

With the game well into stoppage time, Sundowns knew they would have to fight hard to keep their slim lead after the fourth official showed there was 6 minutes of added time to play.

Eventually, the break through would come for Edo Queens and it was their star player, Emem Essien (90+5′) who pulled the team level, slicing home the e ball after Dlamini fumbled her catch.
