CAF President to Visit East Africa Ahead of CHAN 2025 Preparations

The President of the Confederation of African Football, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, is set to visit Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in December 2024 to assess the progress of preparations for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship scheduled for February 2025.

The visit will focus on inspecting stadiums, infrastructure, and facilities in the three host countries as they warm up for the continental tournament.

The qualifiers for CHAN 2025 are set to begin in December 2024.

During his stop in Tanzania, Dr. Motsepe will host a meeting with the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO). Among other discussions, the committee will be briefed on the readiness of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to host CHAN 2025.

Additionally, the EXCO will review the “Pathway to US$1 Billion in African Football” plan, which was a major topic during the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly held in Addis Ababa in October 2024.

This initiative aims to significantly boost funding and development in African football over the next eight years.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles, led by interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, are set to face Ghana in the qualifiers. The team is determined to secure their spot in CHAN 2025 after missing out on the last edition when Ghana defeated them on penalties to claim the ticket.

The upcoming qualifiers present an opportunity for Nigeria to redeem themselves and showcase their potential on the continental stage.
