Rangers recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angola’s Sagrada Esperanca in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round match in Uyo on Friday.
Kazeem Ogunleye scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute, giving the Nigerian champions a narrow lead heading into the second leg.
Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side once again struggled in front of goal, a recurring issue after similar difficulties in their previous tie against US Zilimadjou of Comoros.
The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
Rangers will only need a draw to advance to the group stage of the competition.
Meanwhile, in the CAF Confederation Cup, Nigeria’s other representative, Enyimba, played out a goalless draw against Etoile Filante in Bamako.
Enyimba will host the second leg next week, where a victory will secure their passage to the next round.
