CAF Confirms Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania as Joint Hosts for CHAN 2025

In a historic first for East Africa Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have been confirmed as the joint hosts of the 2025 Africa Nations Championship, (CHAN).

The announcement was made by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe during his recent visit to Kenya, marking a significant milestone for football in the region.

 

 

Speaking at the CAF Executive Committee meeting held at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi, Dr. Motsepe expressed his admiration for the leadership and commitment shown by Kenya’s President, William Ruto, and the other East African leaders.

 

 

“I am deeply grateful and very proud of the leadership President Ruto is providing in relation to football and CHAN”.

Yesterday, I visited three stadiums, and I was very impressed by the commitment, innovations, and upgrades I saw. I am very pleased with the progress,” Motsepe said.

 

 

Kenya is a football-loving country, and I would like to thank all the Exco members. I am grateful to President Ruto for his commitment.

 

 

 

I am confident that next year’s CHAN tournament in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will be the best ever.”

 

 

 

This will be the first time the prestigious CHAN tournament, which features domestic players from various African nations, will be hosted in East Africa.

 

 

 

President William Ruto echoed Motsepe’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of the tournament for East Africa.

 

 

 

“I can confirm to you that this goes beyond us as leaders and governments. It is all the way to the people, they are supervising us to make sure that everything is put in place so that we host not just a successful football event but the best that we can.

 

 

 

“So on behalf of my colleagues from East Africa, I want to give you our assurance that we will put at your disposal every facility and support that we can to make sure this happens,” said President Ruto.

 

 

The 2025 CHAN tournament is scheduled to take place from February 1-28 2025, with qualifiers set to begin in October.

 

 

With three host nations already confirmed, the remaining 13 spots will be fiercely contested in the upcoming qualifiers.

 

 

 

“CHAN is an excellent opportunity for Africa-based players. It is a perfect place to groom tomorrow’s winners of the AFCON,” Motsepe concluded.
