CAF CL / CC: Plateau United Win, Akwa United Stunned at Home

It was an impressive start for Nigerian Champions Plateau United in their debut CAF Champions League campaign, drubbing Cameroon side, Eding Sport 3-0 in Jos on Sunday.

Plateau United took a first half lead in the 21st minute and held on to the narrow lead into the break.

In the second half, two late goals in the 85th and 90+3′ very much wrapped up the tie.

All is looking good for now as Kennedy Boboye’s men go into the second-leg of the preliminary round (21st February) with a healthy advantage.

Meanwhile, in the other game involving a Nigerian team on the continent, Akwa United were stunned at home by Hawks of Gambia in the Confederation Cup.

Two goals in the first half by by Jallow (13′) and Charity (34′) saw the Promise Keepers tethering on the verge.

But the second half held better fortunes for the home side as they responded in the 72nd minute through Victor Mbaoma to reduce the deficit.

However, Akwa United couldn’t produce the much needed leveler to take something from the game heading into the second-leg (21st February).
