Olorunleke Ojo was the hero for Akwa United in the penalty shootout against Al-Ittihad, while Ikechukwu Ezenwa made his Enyimba debut against Energie FC in the second-leg first round qualifier of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
After securing a 1-0 win in the second-leg to bring the aggregate to 1-1, Akwa United were forced into penalties and Ojo came out big, saving three of the kicks to help his side advance to the play-off round.
Meanwhile, Enyimba completed a home and away victory against Energie FC, winning 5-1 on aggregate (0-2, 3-1) and Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ezenwa was handed his debut for by Coach Paul Aigbogun.
Aigbogun’s men eased to a 3-1 victory in Calabar to secure a play-off spot picking apart the Béninoise side.
Both Akwa United and Enyimba were joined by MFM FC and Plateau United in the CAF Confederation Cup following their defeats in the first round qualifiers of the more lucrative Champions League.
The draw for the CAF Confederation Cup play-off will be held on Wednesday, 21 March.
