Build on Peseiro’s Work, Okpara Cautions Finidi on Swift Changes in Super Eagles

Super Eagles head coach Finidi George should not ring too many changes to the squad too soon according to former Nigerian midfielder Godwin Okpara.

Okpara argued that Finidi has little time to establish his own style with the players particularly with the World Cup qualifiers coming so soon.

The former PSG player advised that the Super Eagles gaffer should keep the core of his predecessor’s team to enable smooth and seamless transition.

Finidi worked as assistant to Jose Peseiro for over 18 Months, a period which saw the team reach the semi-final of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since his appointment as head coach in April the 53 year-old has managed two games; international friendlies against Ghana and Mali.

This Friday, Finidi will guide the Super Eagles to his first competitive match and it comes in a crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa.

In his assessment of the current Super Eagles and the task at hand, Godwin Okpara told Brila.net that he expects a gradual transformation in the team because Peseiro didn’t leave behind a bad squad.
