Super Eagles defender, Bruno Onyemaechi has addressed the controversy surrounding a recent post from his official X account that hinted at an interest in a potential transfer to Chelsea.
The now deleted post fueled widespread speculation about a possible move, although Onyemaechi has since denied any such intention.
The post came shortly after Onyemaechi scored his first goal of the season during Boavista’s 2-2 draw against Estrela de Amadora last weekend. In the post, he wrote,
“Scored my first goal of the season today, make una help me tag Todd Boehly abeg I wan see something.”
The message quickly sparked backlash, with many fans questioning his professionalism and commitment to Boavista.
In response to the uproar, Onyemaechi took to X on Wednesday to clarify the situation. He apologized and explained that his account had been compromised:
“Hello everyone, I have been having some difficulties logging into this account for the past 74 hours. I believe someone hacked into the account and made the last post.
“Apologies to anyone the post may have affected in any way, and big respect to my club @boavistaoficial 🖤🤍.”
Hello everyone
I have been having some difficulties longing to this account for the past 74 hours I believe someone hacked into the account and made the last post and apologies to anyone the last post may have cost in anyway and big respect to my club @boavistaoficial 🖤🤍— Onyemabruno70 (@BrunoOnyemaechi) September 18, 2024
Despite the initial controversy, Onyemaechi reaffirmed his loyalty to Boavista, distancing himself from the post and confirming that his focus remains firmly on his current club.
Onyemaechi joined Boavista in 2023 from CD Feirense for a reported fee of €1 million, with a contract running until the summer of 2026.
With his apology and explanation, Onyemaechi hopes to put the controversy behind him and continue his focus on Boavista.
