Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is not surprised by the performance of Wilfred Ndidi in their premier league opener against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
The Super Eagles midfielder was drafted into the defense to partner Caglar Soyuncu following the suspension of Jonny Evans and injury to Wes Morgan.
After his initial struggle earlier in the game, Ndidi bounced back to give a good account of himself and helped the team keep a clean sheet away from home.
Rodgers said the player did well to adapt to the role but wasn’t surprised as he once played as a center-back in one of their pre-season games.
“Ndidi playing at center-back was outstanding. He played 60 minutes there in a pre-season friendly,” Rodgers told BBC.
“He did play there earlier in his career. He’s got the profile to play there – he’s big with a good leap.
“Even if he’d played there all his life it would be tough coming back from everyone playing different systems with national teams. It would always be difficult to be cohesive after a couple of days training,” he said.
The Nigeria international has made 121 Premier League appearances for the King Power Stadium outfit since joining the club in 2017.
