Boxing Kids: Is this Legal, Illegal or Abusive?

A video of two of boys sparing in what appeared a boxing session could perhaps be the new sensation on twitter.

The kids who looked to be between the ages 8-10 were locked in a slugfest to the delight of a small crowd of onlookers and “fans” gathered round the open field where the fight ensued.

The video was shared on twitter by Nigeria journalist Oluwashina Okeleji on Tuesday and it is believed the scenes of the fight happened in the West African country.

Both fighters wore tank tops, shorts and only two notably visible boxing gears; gloves and shoes.

There was an adult referee cum trainer who oversaw the pound for pound session and every punch landed by the bigger child drew praises and cheers from the spectators.

Okeleji tweeted: “Legal, abusive or illegal? 🤔🤛🥊 Somewhere in #Nigeria. via FUBS” and it drew several comments, most of which argued in favor of the show.

A twitter user considered the situation good for the boys and argued it was idle for self-defense.

Another comment suggested, “Boxing is a sport, it seems they have a referee that made sure the fight paused when one fell. No difference with watching kids play ⚽️”

But, a more observant twitter user @shyguy007 raised concerns that the whippersnappers had no head gear on

He tweeted: “as they don’t have head guards, thou knoweth the answer.”
