Victor Boniface led Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-1 triumph over Augsburg in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak through the entire 2023/24 season under head coach Xabi Alonso.
Boniface opened the scoring for Leverkusen in the 12th minute, marking his 21st goal of the season.
His impressive performance also includes nine assists across all competitions for Die Werkself.
Bayer Leverkusen quickly doubled their lead, with Robert Andrich netting another goal just six minutes later.
Augsburg managed to pull one back through Mert Komur, but it was not enough to challenge Leverkusen’s dominance.
Boniface alongside his teammate Nathan Tella have joined an elite group of Nigerian players who won a European league title with an unbeaten record.
They now share this prestigious honor with football legends like Nwankwo Kanu, who achieved it with Arsenal in the 2003/04 season, and Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, and Leon Balogun, who did so with Rangers in the 2020/21 season.
