Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface delivered a stellar performance on his return from international duty, scoring twice and providing an assist in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 away victory against Hoffenheim.
After a frustrating international break, where he failed to find the net against Benin Republic and Rwanda, Boniface bounced back in style for his club.
New signing Martin Terrier opened the scoring for Leverkusen in the 17th minute, capitalizing on an assist from Boniface.
The Super Eagles forward then doubled his side’s lead just after the half-hour mark, converting a pass from Granit Xhaka to register his first league goal of the season.
Boniface added a second personal strike 15 minutes from time, sealing the comprehensive victory before being substituted by Patrick Schick in the 86th minute.
Boniface’s fellow Nigerian, Nathan Tella, also featured in the starting lineup but was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong in the 57th minute.
In an all-around dominant display, Boniface led the match statistics, recording the most touches in the opposition box (15), most shots (7), most duels won (5), most shots on target (4), most successful take-ons (3), most big chances (3), as well as topping the charts for goals (2) and assists (1).
His outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
