Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface has been left out of the squad for their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Brest after his involvement in a car accident on Sunday.
The Nigeria international sustained minor injuries in the accident, which initially left his participation in doubt.
Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, had earlier stated that the club would make a decision on Boniface’s inclusion closer to the game.
“He’s better now. A situation like this isn’t easy, and there’s no doubt you have to process it. Of course, we’re all very relieved that nothing serious happened to him,” Rolfes told Bild.
Following further assessment, the club has decided to rest the 23-year-old, who also missed training on Monday. Boniface will be replaced in the squad by Francis Onyeka.
Boniface has been in impressive form for Leverkusen in the Champions League this season, making his absence a headache for coach Xavi Alonso.
