Boniface A “Real Problem” for Opposition Defence — Alonso

Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is not surprised with Victor Boniface’s incredible start to life in the Bundesliga as he hailed the striker’s mentality.

Boniface has settled quickly into life in the Germany after his €23m move from Belgian side Union SG.

The Nigerian is Leverkusen’s top scorer so far with 10 goals across all competitions, with his latest strike coming in the 3-0 destruction of Cologne at the Bay Arena last Sunday.

“Victor’s a real problem for opposition defences. He’s powerful, quick and makes runs from deep. He has a good mentality and works for the team, not for himself,” the Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso told the Bundesliga official website.

“Victor is a very commanding and difficult to handle centre forward who will be a challenge for every defender with his physicality. He’s also quick and has good technique.”

Barely four months in Germany, Boniface has won Bundesliga Rookie and Player of the year award, making the Bundesliga team of the week for three consecutive weeks.

“He’s been playing at a very high level for months and has taken huge steps forward with us,” Alonso concluded.
