Bonfrere Jo praises Eagles, predicts good outing in Russia

Former Super Eagles technical adviser, Jo Bonfrere, has heaped plaudits on the current Super Eagles team as he wishes them a fantastic outing in Russia.

Bonfrere spoke in an exclusive interview with brila.net’s Anthony Bekederemo, The former Coach expresses his delight at the strength of the team while tagging the Super Eagles ‘the Best team in Africa’.

“I hope the Super Eagles get a good draw come Friday, the team is strong and they deserve a place in the next round”, the Ex-South Korea Coach, Bonfrere said.

The Atlanta ’96 Olympic Gold winning Coach also emphasized on the need to start preparations early as early and top-notch preparation was part of the secrets of the Atlanta ’96 success.

“The team is very good, and when I talk about the team, I don’t mean just the players. I am talking about the Coaches, the trainers, the Assistant coaches and all that makes up the team”. The former Coach told brila.net.

The 71-year-old Dutch Veteran also added his voice on the players’ bonus issue, and he urges the Football Federation to sort everything regarding bonuses early.

Bonfrere, However, was not interested in the state of things with the Dutch National team. The Netherlands failed to qualify for the FIFA Mundial in Russia after series of bad results over the qualifying campaign.

“They beat Nigeria 5-1 in a friendly long time ago, but right now, They can’t. The Eagles team is stronger and better” says Bonfrere Jo.

Bonfrère led Nigeria national football team to the 1996 Summer Olympics gold medal in Atlanta, Georgia.He was the coach of Al-Ahly in Egypt in 2002/03 where he lost the league at the very last match with a difference of two points. His contract was terminated after that.

He also led Nigeria to the 2000 African Cup of Nations co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana. Bonfrère led the Nigerian team to the finals, where they lost to Cameroon by penalties.
