Former Nigeria’s technical adviser Bonfrere Jo believed the Imama Amakapabo led coaching crew made huge tactical blunder in Super Eagles Team B 3-4 agreegate defeat to Togo in the 2020 CHAN qualifiers.

Sikiru Alimi’s brace at the Soccer temple in Agege last Saturday was not enough for the hosts to overturn their 4-1 first leg defeat in Lome , as they failed to book a  place at the tournament to be hosted in Cameroon next year.

Speaking to brila.net after the game, Bonfrere who led Nigeria to the Gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic said the team should have been more starter in searching for important winner goal.

Bonfrere opined that Nigeria should have make use of the wings more than they did against defensive organized Togolesse side.

“They should have been a little bit smarter , the number 9 (Nyima Nwangwua) should have substituted because he couldn’t do anything with the ball on his foot , but if they have given him anything from the side of the team , he could done something with his body.”

“The second point is, if Nigeria has done something from the wings , left and right is much more dangerous than playing from the back line , so that’s the mistake they made.” He told brila.net

The Dutchman who has been on a scouting mission in Nigeria for the past three weeks , however said he can’t comment on the current situation of the Nigeria professional football league, as he has not been following.

“I’ve not been following the league, i have only see game from national team, in Russia and the Egypt.”

Bonfrere also led Nigeria to second place finish in 2000’s African Cup of Nations hosted by Nigeria and Ghana.
