Blame Administrators for Declining Fortunes of Nigerian Sports – Ajunwa

Former Nigerian Athlete and Olympic gold medallist, Chioma Ajunwa says Sports is on the decline in the Country, and blames poor administration for the “nose dive.”

Ajunwa, who won gold for Nigeria at the 1996 Olympic Games in the Women’s Long jump event, claims that the administrators of Sports in the country have neglected the developmental policies that once identified and promoted prospects in various sports.

She told brila.net that Nigeria’s prospect of rising again in Sports is to return to the grassroot; revamping school sports and inter local government councils games.

The Olympian underscored the need for qualified individuals guiding the affairs of Sports in the country as key for all policies to be effective.

“We must return to the days where we had proper structures for primary and secondary school sports which produced athletes like myself and others,” said Ajunwa.

“Importantly though, we must also ensure that we get it right administratively, we need to put the right people in the right positions.”
