Victor Osimhen is in race to be available for Napoli’s Serie A opening game after sustaining an ankle injury during training on Monday.

Osimhen, 24, picked up the injury during training according to his club Napoli. The Partenopei further revealed the Nigeria international left training prematurely due to the injury.​

“Osimhen left training prematurely due to a sprain to his right ankle,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

The forward collided with new signing Nathan during a practice match and stayed down, before being attended to by the doctors.

Napoli will be hoping the striker is able to recover for the league tie against Frosinone on August 19.

The Nigerian scored 24 goals as the Partenopei lifted the title last season.
